In a strategic reorganization, Apple is set to realign its executive structure as it prepares for the retirement of former COO Jeff Williams later this year, as reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
As part of the changes, Eddy Cue, who currently leads Apple’s services division, will take charge of the health and fitness teams, which are anticipated to unveil a new Health Plus subscription.
Jeff Williams, who has been integral to Apple’s health initiatives, transitioned his COO responsibilities to Sabih Khan, the company’s former vice president of operations, back in July. Following his departure, Apple aims to redistribute Williams’ remaining duties, with Craig Federighi, head of software, set to oversee watchOS, and John Ternus, head of hardware, to manage engineering for Apple Watch.
Moreover, Bloomberg has indicated that Johnny Srouji, senior vice president for hardware technologies, is contemplating his future at Apple shortly after introducing the company’s inaugural in-house modem.
In addition to these executive shifts, Apple is also adjusting internal team structures. According to Bloomberg, fitness chief Jay Blahnik will now report to Sumbul Desai, vice president of health, during an ongoing internal inquiry into conduct. Both executives previously worked under Williams. In August, The New York Times reported on a lawsuit filed by a former employee against Blahnik, alleging he fostered a toxic work environment.
