OpenAI introduced its latest AI model, GPT-5, on Thursday. However, users will not be able to access this new version through Apple’s ChatGPT integration until the rollout of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26, according to a confirmation from Apple to 9to5Mac.
Currently, Apple Intelligence utilizes ChatGPT to assist with certain queries through Siri and also in conjunction with its Visual Intelligence feature, akin to Google Lens. At present, the integration employs OpenAI’s GPT-4o model. Apple has indicated that its next significant software updates are anticipated to be launched in the upcoming “fall,” likely within the next month. Queries have been directed to Apple concerning the inclusion of GPT-5 in developer and/or public betas for these updates, along with potential launch timelines.
On Thursday, GPT-5 became available to all ChatGPT users, including those in the free subscription tier. OpenAI has reported that ChatGPT is currently utilized by approximately 700 million individuals each week.
