Apple is reportedly developing a pair of smart glasses aimed at competing with the recently launched Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses. A new report from Bloomberg suggests that these wearable devices may hit the market by 2026. The glasses are expected to feature cameras and microphones, which will facilitate the integration of Apple’s Siri voice assistant, along with a built-in speaker for additional functionalities.

Enhanced Interaction Through AI-Driven Features

According to industry insiders, Apple is targeting a release of its inaugural smart glasses by the end of 2026. Furthermore, the company aims to produce multiple prototypes in collaboration with various suppliers located outside the United States by the conclusion of 2025.

These new smart glasses will likely position themselves against the Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses and forthcoming Android XR devices. Similar to Meta’s offering, Apple’s glasses will allow users to engage through voice commands.

The planned hardware for Apple’s smart glasses includes three main components: cameras, microphones, and speakers. The camera system will afford the glasses the capability to “analyze” the environment around the wearer, while the integrated microphone will enable users to communicate with Siri.

The inclusion of speakers will add support for various features, including live translation, navigation assistance, and making phone calls. This product could mark Apple’s debut in the AI-focused wearable segment, and there are indications that other innovative devices could follow, such as AirPods featuring camera technology.

However, plans for one such device have reportedly been placed on hold. Previous indications suggested that Apple was exploring the development of an Apple Watch with an integrated camera capable of capturing its environment, but those efforts have been discontinued according to the latest report.

In a potentially competitive move, Meta is anticipated to unveil a pair of smart glasses with a built-in display later this year. Additionally, the company is said to be developing a model known as Hypernova, which will incorporate hand gesture recognition capabilities and also feature a built-in display.
