Apple is preparing to launch a new dedicated gaming application aimed at enhancing the gaming experience across its devices. A well-informed journalist has indicated that this app will be pre-installed on the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV, providing users with a centralized platform to access games, track in-game achievements, and engage with editorial content related to new releases.
Apple’s Dedicated Gaming App
According to sources cited by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who chose to remain anonymous, Apple’s dedicated gaming app is slated for rollout on its devices later this year. The app will feature editorial insights about upcoming titles, direct access to the game section in the App Store, and promotion of Apple Arcade.
Gurman notes that the new app aims to replace Game Centre, Apple’s existing social networking platform focused on gaming. This application is expected to be available on all Apple devices including the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV, showcasing in-game achievements, leaderboards, player communication, and recent activities.
Additionally, there are plans for a Mac version that will allow users to view games downloaded from outside the App Store. This app, along with its iPhone counterpart, is anticipated to be associated with iOS 19, which will be showcased at the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, shortly after the Nintendo Switch 2 debuts. Users can expect the release of the app in September, coinciding with the launch of the new iPhone models.
This new gaming application represents a broader strategy by Apple to expand its footprint in the gaming industry. Recent reports suggest that the company has acquired RAC7 Games, the studio known for Sneaky Sasquatch. Moreover, a growing number of gaming studios have been adapting their titles for Apple devices, with notable games like Death Stranding, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and Resident Evil Village becoming available on the iPhone in recent years, allowing users to experience console-quality gaming on mobile.
Furthermore, Apple has introduced enhancements such as a dedicated Game Mode, designed to optimize gaming performance on the iPhone.
