Apple will be broadening its self-service repair initiative to include several iPad models, such as the iPad mini, iPad Air, and iPad Pro. This expansion will go live tomorrow, enabling customers to order replacement parts and repair kits tailored for these Apple tablets.
The updated program primarily encompasses the iPad models that Apple has on the market, including the A16 iPad, the A17 Pro iPad mini, and the M4 iPad Pro. The only earlier model included in this range is the M2 iPad Air, alongside the newly available M3 versions.
Currently, Apple has not revealed the pricing for the new repair kits and components, which are expected to cover displays, batteries, cameras, and charging ports. Additionally, customers will have the option to rent tool kits necessary for completing the repairs. For reference, parts for iPhones range from $69 to $119 for batteries, while display replacements cost between $129 and $379, indicating that iPad parts could likely be priced higher.
The Self Service Repair program was introduced in 2022, initially focused on iPhones, but has since expanded to include certain Mac computers, MacBooks, and the Studio Display. Furthermore, Apple has announced that the program will reach Canada this summer. Additionally, MobileSentrix is set to be included as a parts distributor in the United States as part of the recently introduced Genuine Parts Distributor program, which enables third-party retailers to supply official Apple parts to independent repair facilities.
