On Tuesday, Apple introduced the first public beta update for iOS 18.5, aimed at iPhone users. This update is considered a minor release, featuring a limited number of changes. Among the updates are enhancements to the Mail app, allowing users to view Contact Photos directly within the email interface. Additionally, the AppleCare information banner has been revised to offer a clearer overview of the purchased plan, along with improved management options. Notably, prior to this public beta, Apple also released the second developer beta of iOS 18.5.

iOS 18.5 Public Beta 1 Update: What’s New

The iOS 18.5 Public Beta 1 includes changes similar to those introduced in the earlier iOS 18.5 Developer Beta 1. However, the features remain modest, with no significant overhauls made to existing applications or functionalities. According to reports from 9to5Mac, users can now access the Contact Photos toggle from the Mail app’s three-dot menu located in the top right corner of the screen.

This feature, which was previously limited to the iPhone’s Settings app, now enjoys a new shortcut within the Mail app following the update. Furthermore, users can adjust settings to disable the Group by Sender, categories, and AI priority messages options using the same three-dot menu.

The update also reportedly enhances the visual display of the AppleCare and Warranty Coverage page, introducing an updated section for AppleCare coverage within the Settings app. This feature can be accessed by navigating to Settings > General > AppleCare and Warranty. The new link allows users to gather additional details about their purchased coverage.

With the introduction of iOS 18.5 Public Beta 1, iPhone users can manage their AppleCare plans through their Apple Account by selecting a specific device from their device list.

With the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 approaching, speculation suggests that Apple may soon wind down its work on the iOS 18 updates to redirect its focus toward new features planned for the forthcoming iOS 19. However, official details regarding these developments have yet to be disclosed.
