On Wednesday, Apple rolled out the iOS 18.5 Developer Beta 1 update aimed at developers and beta testers for iPhone users. While the update does not introduce major new features, it does include several minor enhancements for the Mail app and AppleCare details, in addition to various system stability improvements and bug fixes related to the Apple Vision Pro app, StoreKit, Writing Tools, and more on the iPhone.
iOS 18.5 Developer Beta 1 Update: Changes
This new beta version follows the recent release of iOS 18.4, which brought notable features to iPhone 15 Pro models, including Visual Intelligence, new emojis, and Image Playground styles. According to MacRumors, users are now able to manage Contact Photos directly within the Mail app by selecting the three-dot menu in the upper right corner of the screen. The update also offers the option to disable the Group by Sender feature on the iPhone.
A newly added banner for AppleCare coverage can now be found in the Settings app. Users can access it by navigating to Settings > General > AppleCare and Warranty. Here, they can learn more about their coverage by clicking on the accompanying link. Furthermore, the update allows users to manage their AppleCare plans through their Apple Account by selecting a device from their device list.
Besides these enhancements, the iOS 18.5 Developer Beta 1 update addresses issues noted in the Apple Vision Pro app, which was first introduced with the iOS 18.4 update. This app is designed for the company’s mixed reality headset, allowing users to download applications and games, explore films and shows, and receive tips via the App Store. Some users had reported that the app would open to a black screen, and the latest beta aims to resolve this issue.
The update also corrects a bug affecting the isEligibleForIntroOffer(for:)
function, which incorrectly returned false for users not signed in. Additionally, it addresses a functional issue related to Apple’s Writing Tools. Apple anticipates launching iOS 18.5 next month, following the timeline of previous updates.
