On Tuesday, Apple introduced its new Invites app for iPhone, designed to streamline the process of creating and sharing custom invitations with friends and family. While only users with iCloud+ subscriptions can create invitations, anyone can respond to them, regardless of whether they possess an Apple Account or device. The app facilitates sharing invitations, managing RSVPs, contributing to Shared Albums, and enjoying curated Apple Music playlists.
This launch marks a new addition from Apple that was not mentioned during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, where the company focused on showcasing the capabilities of iOS 18. However, hints regarding the app were found in the latest iOS 18.3 beta code, and it has now been officially rolled out worldwide.
Apple Invites App
The California-based tech company detailed the Invites app in a newsroom release. According to Apple, the app combines features that users are already familiar with from iPhone, iCloud, and Apple Music, making the planning of special events more convenient. The Invites app is available for free on the App Store for any iPhone model running iOS 18 or later, and can also be accessed online by visiting icloud.com/invites.
To set up an event with the Invites app, users can choose an image from their personal library or from a selection of wallpaper designs. In addition, the app utilizes Apple Intelligence, allowing users to create custom images with concepts, descriptions, and people driven by text prompts using the Image Playground feature. Apple indicates that the text for invitations can also be modified using AI-enhanced Writing Tools.
Hosts have the ability to effortlessly manage their events through the app. They can share the invitation link, monitor RSVPs, and customize the details shown in the preview, all within the Invites platform. Guests, on the other hand, can view and reply to invitations directly through the app, control which personal details are shared, and report on events. Those without an iCloud+ subscription or an Apple device can also view the invitations on the web.
In addition to managing invitations, the Invites app allows participants to upload photos and videos to a shared album specific to each event. Guests can also access soundtracks created for the occasion via Apple Music within the app. This feature enhances the already existing perks associated with iCloud+ subscriptions, which include increased storage space, Private Relay, Hide My Email, HomeKit Secure Video, and custom email domains.
