Apple is reportedly developing a new application for iOS designed to keep users informed about games available on Apple Arcade and the App Store. The anticipated gaming hub is expected to integrate with users’ Game Center profiles, showcasing information about friends, along with challenges, gaming events, leaderboards, and additional content.
Apple Developing Gaming-Centric App for iPhone
A report from 9to5Mac indicates that the new gaming hub will function independently of the App Store, featuring multiple sections including a Play Now tab that will provide “editorial content and game suggestions.”
At present, the App Store lists games while users’ gaming achievements are accessed through Game Center on iOS. The forthcoming app is expected to leverage a user’s Game Center profile to display specific achievements and friend leaderboards.
Similar to platforms like Steam and the Epic Games Store, the new gaming hub could keep users updated about new events and features in various games. It’s notable that, while the App Store allows developers to highlight new features and in-game events, the proposed app might enhance this experience further.
Aside from detailing game updates, the app could enable communication among friends via Apple’s messaging and calling services, including iMessage and FaceTime. The report does not clarify if this functionality would be exclusive to Game Center friends.
The anticipated gaming hub is expected to support both App Store titles and games available through Apple Arcade, the company’s subscription service that grants access to a variety of ad-free games without in-app purchases. Confirmation from Apple regarding this development is anticipated to be officially disclosed only upon the app’s release.
