Apple is ramping up its hiring efforts in India, focusing on various departments, as reported by sources familiar with the matter. The tech giant has been assembling iPhones in the country since 2017 and seeks to enhance its product manufacturing diversification while building a more resilient supply chain that lessens reliance on China. The hiring spree includes positions in several cities as Apple prepares to start production of its iPad and AirPods wireless headsets locally.
Expansion Plans Lead to Recruitment in Four Major Cities
Recent job postings on Apple’s career page, noted by Moneycontrol, indicate that the company is looking to expand its workforce in hardware, software, retail, and online sales. The positions are available in four major cities: Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, and Hyderabad.
According to sources cited by the publication, Apple intends to double its workforce supporting supply chain partners like Hon Hai (Foxconn) and Tata Electronics, in addition to hiring more support staff.
The initiative to manufacture AirPods in India comes eight years after the company commenced iPhone assembly in the country. Production of AirPods at Foxconn’s facility in Hyderabad could begin as soon as next month, based on the report.
Presently, Foxconn is Apple’s primary manufacturing ally in India for iPhones, with plans to increase the production of smartphones that will be exported globally. The company is not just limited to AirPods, as it is also looking to start manufacturing iPads and MacBooks in India, according to the information available.
In addition to recruitment for manufacturing and supply chain roles, Apple is also considering an increase in retail employment. Physical stores remain crucial for hardware sales in India, playing a vital role in Apple’s strategy to grow its market presence in the region.
