Anthropic is preparing to launch a new “voice mode” feature for its Claude AI chatbot, which aims to compete with OpenAI’s similar offering in ChatGPT, as reported by Bloomberg. The company anticipates that the AI voice assistant could be available for users beginning this month.
The upcoming feature will reportedly include three distinct English-language voice options named Airy, Mellow, and Buttery. This development follows earlier discussions about the voice mode concept. Last month, Mike Kreiger, Anthropic’s chief product officer, mentioned in an interview with the Financial Times that the company had internal prototypes and recognized the utility of voice as a modality.
The possibility of a voice mode was initially detected by app researcher M1Astra in Anthropic’s iOS application, a claim that Bloomberg has since verified. An inquiry sent to Anthropic by Technology News did not receive an immediate response.
Founded by former OpenAI employees, Anthropic has emerged as a key contender in the AI landscape, particularly against the makers of ChatGPT. Recently, the company introduced a subscription tier priced at $200 per month aimed at “power” users and unveiled a new research-oriented AI tool on Tuesday.
