Last week, Google unveiled Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2, which brings notable updates including a new launch animation for its artificial intelligence chatbot, Gemini. Though not widely reported, this update features a fresh animation designed to enhance the Gemini overlay. The screen is set to shrink slightly to accommodate the overlay, accompanied by improvements in haptic feedback and the ability to share the screen and ask questions in real-time.

The new launch animation was highlighted by 9to5Google, indicating that the overlay can be activated by pressing and holding the power button, which also triggers haptic feedback. Some users had reported issues with the vibration feature, but it has been confirmed as a minor bug that has now been addressed in the update.
Those participating in the A/B testing have noted that the haptic feedback is functioning correctly in this iteration. Upon invoking the AI assistant, users will notice that the screen shrinks while the new overlay smoothly slides into view. Individuals running the Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 will have access to features like Share Screen with Live options, the ability to Ask about the current screen, and the standard Ask Gemini text input field.
The visual effect created by the shrinking screen borders is described as enhancing the user experience. Presently, this feature is under a limited rollout, with only select Pixel devices receiving access.
Alongside the new Gemini animation, this update also reportedly introduces a redesign of the Pixel Launcher search bar, which has decreased in size and now includes an AI Mode option. Furthermore, the latest beta improves the Android desktop windowing experience for users with supported smartphones or tablets connected to external displays.
Additional significant features include flexible window tiling, enhanced compatibility for applications, and improved management of multi-instance tasks.
