Amazon is exploring a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature aimed at enhancing the shopping experience for its users. The feature, known as audio product summaries, allows customers to listen to concise highlights about various products. The e-commerce leader from Seattle explained that these audio clips consist of discussions between multiple AI-generated shopping experts who cover different facets of the product, assisting customers in determining whether it meets their needs.
In a recent news release, Amazon elaborated on this technology currently in testing. The audio product summaries are brief audio segments available directly on the product detail page. They showcase AI-generated experts discussing product features, customer feedback, and relevant technical details sourced from online content.
Amazon indicates that these audio highlights aim to reduce the need for users to comb through lengthy product detail pages or conduct separate internet searches for information. The company envisions a more engaging listening experience that feels both enjoyable and practical.
This feature utilizes large language models (LLMs) to create the scripts for the audio content. The script is compiled from data gathered from the web, product catalogs, and customer reviews, which an AI text-to-speech (TTS) tool then converts into an audio format. Amazon has not disclosed which specific AI models are employed in this initiative.
