On Monday, Amazon unveiled a new artificial intelligence (AI) agent known as the Nova Act, designed to handle a variety of tasks within web browsers. This innovation is built on the Amazon Nova framework, which comprises a suite of proprietary AI models touted for their exceptional intelligence and cost effectiveness. Currently, the Nova Act is being offered as a software development kit (SDK) and is accessible to users across the United States. It is important to note that the AI agent is currently in a research preview phase.
Amazon Unveils a Browser-Based AI Agent
In a recent announcement via a newsroom post, the Seattle-based company detailed the rollout of the Nova AI models along with the launch of the Nova Act. The Nova series, originally introduced in December 2024, consists of three variations: Micro, Lite, and Pro.
These large language models (LLMs) are designed to deliver advanced functionalities at competitive prices. Previously, access to these models was restricted to select businesses via an invitation system. Now, developers and enthusiasts can engage with these models through a specialized website, which is currently limited to users in the U.S.
The new platform also highlights the Nova Act, aimed at developers who can utilize the SDK to incorporate agentic features into their applications and software. This agent operates on an initial version of a specially adapted Nova model and is offered to U.S. users as part of a research preview.
Amazon asserts that the AI agent can independently execute a variety of tasks within a web browser, such as completing online forms, making purchases, or securing restaurant reservations. However, the company has yet to disclose the complete range of capabilities that Nova Act possesses. The company defines these AI agents as “systems that can accomplish tasks and operate in multiple digital and physical environments on behalf of the user.”
“Nova.amazon.com [makes] it easier than ever to explore the capabilities of Amazon Nova. We’ve created this experience to inspire builders, so that they can quickly test their ideas with Nova models, and then implement them at scale in Amazon Bedrock,” remarked Rohit Prasad, Senior Vice President of Amazon Artificial General Intelligence.
