Amazon Prime Video Set to Roll Out Ads in India by 2025

Amazon Prime Video plans to implement advertisements for its subscribers in India starting in 2025. This development follows the introduction of ads on the platform in several regions, including Australia, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, the United States, and select European nations. As a result, Indian users will soon notice ads while watching their favorite content on Amazon’s streaming service. Those who prefer an ad-free experience will need to opt for a more expensive subscription that is expected to be launched in the near future.

Amazon Prime Video to Introduce Ads in India Starting in 2025

In a recent announcement on its website, Amazon disclosed that it will begin showing “limited” advertisements on Prime Video in India from 2025. The company explained that this move will enable further investment in content for the streaming platform and facilitate sustained investment over time. Viewers will encounter these advertisements while enjoying shows and movies on Prime Video.

According to Amazon, Prime Video will feature “meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming providers.” In the competitive Indian market, platforms such as Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar offer both ad-supported plans and premium options without ads. Amazon currently provides a Prime Lite subscription, which allows access to Prime Video at a resolution of 720p, but this plan includes advertisements.

Subscribers who wish to avoid all advertisements while watching content will have to select a forthcoming ad-free subscription for Prime Video. This option may be available as an additional fee to the annual Amazon Prime membership, which is currently priced at Rs. 1,499 and includes access to Prime Video. Amazon has confirmed that this pricing structure will remain in place through 2025, and details regarding the new ad-free subscription will be announced at a later date.

While the precise timing of the ad rollout for Prime Video subscribers in India remains unspecified, Amazon has assured Prime members that they will receive notifications “several weeks” in advance. This notification will include details about the ad-free subscription option and instructions on how to enroll. The changes will primarily impact Amazon Prime members, while those subscribed to Prime Lite, who already experience ads, will not see any alterations.
