Adobe has announced the introduction of new features for its Premiere Pro and After Effects software, which will be highlighted at the upcoming National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show 2025 in Las Vegas. The updates stem from user feedback from professional editors and motion designers, focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to enhance workflow and functionality.
Introduction of Generative Extend in Premiere Pro
According to a blog post issued by Adobe, several enhancements are set to roll out for both Premiere Pro and After Effects. Among the most significant additions is the Generative Extend feature in Premiere Pro, which allows users to enhance clips by integrating Firefly-generated footage in 4K resolution.

The Generative Extend feature, which was initially announced last year, is now being made available to users. This innovative tool utilizes Adobe’s proprietary Firefly video generation AI model to allow editors to extend their clips with AI-generated frames in 4K quality. By providing a text prompt, users can generate specific footage and accompanying audio. The goal is to enhance editorial options for transitions and address unplanned cuts or movements without the need for reshooting.
Generative Extend can create clips that are up to two seconds in length and can also add up to ten seconds of ambient background audio. Users can pair the two modalities for a total of two seconds of visual content. However, the tool does not support music or dialogue extensions.
For a limited period, Adobe is offering the Generative Extend feature at no charge to Premiere Pro users. Following this initial offering, generating AI-assisted clips will incur costs based on Firefly generative credits, with the credit requirements varying according to the format, frame rate, and video resolution. Creative Cloud subscribers can receive a monthly allotment of credits ranging from 25 to 1,000. In India, a monthly subscription for Adobe Premiere Pro is priced at Rs. 733.96.

Another significant addition is the AI-powered search panel, enhanced by Media Intelligence technology. This feature allows editors to locate specific clips within their libraries using natural language queries. Adobe reports that the tool can identify objects, locations, camera angles, and more.
Furthermore, users can also search for visuals, spoken words, or embedded metadata including shooting details or camera types. This search function operates on-device, which means an Internet connection is not necessary, and Adobe emphasizes that user data is not used for AI training purposes.
Additionally, Adobe is incorporating the Premiere Colour Management tool into Premiere Pro. This user-friendly tool simplifies the addition of color profiles to log and raw camera footage, offering six preset options for quick selection or a customization setting for more detailed adjustments. Furthermore, Premiere Pro now includes automatic translation for video captions into 27 languages, utilizing AI technology.
Similar advancements are being made in After Effects as well. The platform is set to benefit from a new High Performance Preview Playback feature, which utilizes the computer’s RAM and local disk storage to re-cache compositions. This enhancement allows users to preview entire compositions without lengthy delays. Additional improvements will also be made for creating 3D compositions and HDR monitoring.
