Adobe has announced the introduction of several new features for its Premiere Pro and After Effects software, set to be highlighted at the upcoming National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show 2025 in Las Vegas. The company, responding to insights from professional editors and motion designers, is incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) enhancements to support user workflows.
New Generative Extend Feature for Premiere Pro
In a detailed blog post, Adobe outlined several new capabilities rolling out for both Premiere Pro and After Effects. Among the most significant additions is the Generative Extend feature in Premiere Pro, which allows users to extend clips with AI-generated footage rendered in 4K resolution.

The Generative Extend feature, initially announced last year, is now being made available to users. Driven by Adobe’s native Firefly video generation AI model, this feature allows users to generate additional 4K frames to extend existing clips. Users can specify text prompts to create the desired footage and audio, providing greater flexibility for transitions and compensating for unplanned cuts or movements, thus eliminating the need for reshoots.
This new functionality can add up to two seconds of video or up to ten seconds of ambient background audio, with the option to combine both for an extended output. However, the tool does not support the addition or extension of music or spoken dialogue.
In a promotional offer, Adobe will provide the Generative Extend feature free of charge for a limited time for Premiere Pro users. After this period, AI-generated clips will incur costs in Firefly generative credits, which will vary based on the format, frame rate, and resolution of the video. Creative Cloud subscribers can access monthly allocations of credits ranging from 25 to 1,000. In India, a monthly Creative Cloud subscription for Adobe Premiere Pro is priced at approximately Rs. 733.96.

A new AI-powered search panel and Media Intelligence technology are also being introduced. This feature empowers editors to locate specific clips within their library using natural language search queries. Adobe has indicated that the tool is capable of recognizing various elements such as objects, locations, and camera angles.
Moreover, the search capabilities extend to visuals, spoken words, and embedded metadata like shooting details or camera specifications. This on-device feature operates without requiring an Internet connection, ensuring that users’ data is not leveraged for AI training purposes.
Additionally, Premiere Pro will see the incorporation of a Colour Management tool designed to simplify the application of color profiles to log and raw camera footage. The tool includes six preset options for quick selection, alongside customization settings for a broader range of adjustments. Furthermore, Premiere Pro will automatically translate video captions into 27 languages utilizing AI technology.
After Effects is set to benefit from notable enhancements as well. A new High Performance Preview Playback feature enables the software to utilize both RAM and local disks for efficient re-caching of compositions, allowing users to preview their full projects without extended waiting times. Improvements in 3D composition creation and HDR monitoring are also on the agenda for the platform.
