On Tuesday, Adobe introduced its Firefly platform in mobile app form, now available for both Android and iOS. This new app incorporates Adobe’s own AI models alongside third-party options from Google and OpenAI. Through the app, users can access a range of AI tools, including capabilities for image and video generation, as well as advanced photo editing. In an appealing offer, users on the free tier will receive a limited amount of complimentary credits, while paid subscribers will receive credits aligned with their subscription plans.

Launch of Adobe’s Firefly Mobile App

The software company, headquartered in San Jose, California, announced the Firefly app’s launch via a blog post. The app is designed to empower users to create and edit projects using AI features wherever they are. A key feature of the app is its seamless integration with users’ Creative Cloud accounts, ensuring that any project work is automatically synchronized.

Users of the Firefly app can generate images and videos through various models. For image generation, they can choose from Adobe’s Firefly Image 3, Image 4, and Image 4 Ultra, or utilize models from Google’s Imagen series or OpenAI’s GPT Image models. Video generation is facilitated by Firefly Video or Google’s Veo 2 model, and users even have the option to create videos from images.

In terms of photo editing, Adobe provides tools such as Generative Fill, which allows for the removal or addition of elements using AI, and Generative Expand, which enhances images by adding context based on user prompts. Users who have started projects on desktop can conveniently continue their work on the app, given that their projects are saved in the Creative Cloud.

For users without a subscription, there is a monthly limit of 10 generative credits, while those with Creative Cloud or Firefly credit subscriptions have access to features based on their respective credits. Generative credits serve as tokens for utilizing the AI functionalities, with smaller model features, like photo editing, consuming fewer credits compared to extensive image and video generation tasks.

In a separate announcement, Adobe revealed enhancements to its Firefly Boards platform, which is currently in public beta. This AI-driven collaborative moodboarding tool now supports video capabilities, allowing users to remix video clips. The platform employs Adobe’s Firefly Video Model along with Google’s Veo 3 and text-to-video models from Luma AI and Pika 2.2 for these new features.
