Threads, the microblogging service associated with Instagram, is set to enhance its keyword search functionality. Previously limited to select regions, this feature will now be accessible to all users globally, as announced by the platform’s leadership. This enhancement is distinct from the tags functionality currently being trialed in Australia, which aims to facilitate users in discovering posts that align with specific interests or themes, akin to the hashtag system employed by X, formerly known as Twitter.
Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, confirmed the expansion of the keyword search feature on Thursday. Initially launched in a few English-speaking countries, the feature has now been extended to encompass all languages and regions where Threads operates.
Furthermore, Mosseri indicated that the search feature will undergo additional improvements in the near future, though he refrained from disclosing specifics about these forthcoming enhancements. In response to inquiries regarding the possibility of viewing search results chronologically on Threads, he remarked that such an option could potentially pose significant safety risks.
The introduction of the keyword search feature is anticipated to pave the way for Threads to implement support for trending topics—an option already utilized by its competitor X. The recent inclusion of post counts alongside interactive tags suggests an imminent integration of trending topic functionality.
Additionally, Threads recently introduced a feature allowing users to delete their Threads profile without affecting their connected Instagram account. This was not feasible at the platform’s launch in July, as users could only temporarily deactivate their Threads profile due to its tight integration with their Instagram account.
