Sony is poised to unveil its latest smartphone, the Xperia 1 VII, at a launch event scheduled for next week. The announcement follows the device’s recent appearance on a benchmarking platform, raising expectations for its debut. Previous leaks have provided insight into the phone’s design and color options, generating anticipation among tech enthusiasts. This new model is believed to be the successor to the Sony Xperia 1 VI, which made its global debut in May 2024 alongside the Sony Xperia 10 VI.
Sony Xperia Launch Event
In a post on X, Sony disclosed that it will introduce a new Xperia product on May 13 at 4 AM CEST (10 PM IST). The event will be livestreamed on the company’s official YouTube channel. The promotional material features a silhouette of the handset, hinting at its imminent announcement.
The Sony smartphone identified by the model number Sony XQ-FS54, likely being the Xperia 1 VII, was recently listed on Geekbench. Speculations suggest it will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, coupled with 12GB of RAM, and is anticipated to operate on Android 15 right out of the box.
Further reports indicated that the Xperia 1 VII had surfaced on Taiwan’s NCC certification site, showcasing potential color options including black, navy green, and purple. The smartphone might feature a triple rear camera setup that includes an Exmor-T sensor. Dimensions of the device are reportedly 165mm in length and 74mm in width, making it slightly taller than its predecessor, the Sony Xperia 1 VI, which measures 162mm.
The current Xperia 1 VI is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, also featuring 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It runs on Android 14 and boasts a 6.5-inch full-HD+ Bravia-tuned OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Its camera arrangement includes a 48-megapixel primary Sony Exmor T sensor, a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens on the back, along with a 12-megapixel front camera. The device also houses a 5,000mAh battery that supports 30W fast charging.
