Tecno has officially launched its HiOS 15, which is built on Android 15, revealing a series of new artificial intelligence (AI) features designed specifically for Indian consumers. The company collaborated with local AI firm Sarvam AI to enhance its Ella voice assistant with vernacular language capabilities. The brand also announced a new feature for phone calls that includes real-time translation, transcription, and summarization. However, details regarding the rollout timeline and compatible devices for the HiOS 15 update have not been disclosed.
HiOS 15 to Introduce Innovative AI Features
In a recent press statement, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer outlined the new functionalities that users can anticipate with HiOS 15. Some of these features were initially highlighted at last year’s Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin. Tecno emphasizes that its AI capabilities are intended to serve as “practical, user-friendly tools that deliver genuine value to daily life.”
Among the key enhancements in the new operating system is the upgraded Ella voice assistant, which now supports responses in Hindi. Tecno plans to extend support for additional languages, including Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, and Tamil, later this year. The assistant is also being enhanced through integration with Gemini to improve its conversational abilities.
Moreover, Tecno is rolling out a set of AI features focused on enhancing the calling experience. The AI Call Assistant will offer real-time translations, transcriptions, and summaries of voice calls, including those made via WhatsApp. Another feature, AI Auto Answer, will automatically respond to calls when users are preoccupied and summarize the conversation afterward. Finally, the AI Voiceprint Noise Suppression tool aims to minimize background noise during calls.
Tecno has also introduced an AI Writing & Document Assistant that can assist with tasks such as summarizing, rewriting, and expanding text, along with converting handwritten notes to editable Word or PDF formats. In addition, the newly introduced AI Screen Awareness tool offers contextual assistance based on the content displayed on the screen.
For photography, HiOS 15 is launching three new AI capabilities. The upgraded AI Eraser 2.0 & Image Extender can eliminate objects from images and extend parts of photos using voice commands. The AI Wallpaper Generator allows users to create custom wallpapers from text prompts or sketches. Additionally, AI Sharpness Plus serves as an on-device feature to enhance the clarity of blurry images.
Additionally, Tecno is incorporating a privacy-centric feature known as Smart Privacy with AI Blurring, which automatically identifies and obscures sensitive information in screenshots prior to sharing.
Beyond its AI advancements, HiOS 15 introduces system-wide support for picture-in-picture (PiP) functionality, a reimagined dropdown control panel, fresh transition animations, new wallpapers, minimalist icons, and various optimizations for improved performance.
