WhatsApp is currently developing a feature that would enable businesses to showcase a verification badge on their channels. This initiative comes from recent code discoveries in the latest beta version of the app, as reported by a feature tracker. Notably, WhatsApp is expected to transition from its existing green badges to blue verified checkmarks, similar to those utilized on its sister platforms, Instagram and Facebook.
The feature tracker WABetaInfo highlighted a new “verified channel” function in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.1.18, which is now being rolled out to selected testers who participate in the beta program. It is important to note that this feature is still under development, in contrast to other functionalities currently being tested on the platform. A broader rollout to all users is anticipated following its beta testing phase.
Images shared by WABetaInfo illustrate the interface associated with the new verified channel feature. This capability is geared toward WhatsApp Business users, allowing them to display a verified badge on dedicated channels created for their businesses. Last year, the company announced plans for businesses to subscribe to the Meta Verified service, granting them a verified tick mark on their profiles.
According to the leaked screenshot from WABetaInfo, once a verified badge is added to a channel, it will override the existing name and profile picture, displaying the business’s verified details instead. A preview indicates how the channel’s image, name, and verification badge will appear. Should users wish to change their channel’s photo, alterations must be made within their business profile, as stated in the screenshot.
To obtain a verified check mark, businesses are reportedly required to have a Meta Verified subscription. Individual users and non-business accounts will be ineligible for adding a verified tick mark to their channels, based on the information provided by the feature tracker. Although WABetaInfo has an impressive record for unveiling and leaking new WhatsApp features, it is advisable to treat these claims cautiously until the company officially confirms any plans regarding verification marks for channels.
