Sony appears to be preparing for a State of Play livestream event in September, hinting at the potential unveiling of several upcoming games. This follows the company’s last broadcast in May, during which it provided updates on its game lineup. Earlier this month, Sony also conducted a technical presentation to introduce the PlayStation 5 Pro.
Upcoming State of Play Anticipated in September
During the latest episode of the Game Mess Mornings podcast, acclaimed industry insider Jeff Grubb suggested that the next State of Play presentation is “almost certainly” scheduled for September 24. This aligns with his previous statements indicating that Sony was in the process of organizing a September livestream.
While Sony has yet to officially announce the broadcast, speculation is rife that the company will reveal a remastered version of Horizon Zero Dawn in the near future, after the game was listed on the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) website. Rumors regarding the Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered were first reported in 2022.
Grubb also hinted that the State of Play event might include the announcement of another remaster project in addition to Horizon. Additionally, updates on forthcoming titles from third-party developers are expected to be part of the presentation.
On September 10, Sony detailed the features and enhancements of the PlayStation 5 Pro during a technical presentation. Pre-orders for the PS5 Pro will begin on September 26, with the console set to launch in selected markets starting November 7.
Recently, listings for Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered for both PS5 and PC were discovered on the ESRB website. This updated version is anticipated to showcase improved lighting and textures, enhanced animations, a range of accessibility features, and various other quality-of-life enhancements.
Despite these developments, Sony has encountered some backlash regarding its strategy of releasing multiple remasters and remakes of existing titles. The company has already launched or announced remasters or remakes for relatively recent games such as The Last of Us, Marvel’s Spider-Man, The Last of Us Part II, and Until Dawn.
