CMF by Nothing launched its first smartphone in India last year, the CMF Phone 1, which quickly gained popularity due to its unique features, including a modular design that allows users to easily change the back panel and attach accessories. Building on this initial success, the brand has now released its next-generation device, the CMF Phone 2 Pro.
The new smartphone is priced at Rs. 18,999 for the model equipped with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, while the premium version, featuring 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, retails for Rs. 20,999. The CMF Phone 2 Pro retains the customizable design elements of its predecessor, offering a variety of features and specifications that stand out in its category. Here are the key highlights from my initial experiences with the device.
The CMF Phone 2 Pro is available in four color options: White, Black, Light Green, and Orange.
Focusing on design, the CMF Phone 2 Pro features significant enhancements over its predecessor. The overall build quality has seen notable improvements. Customers can choose from four color variants: White, Black, Orange, and Light Green. The Black and Light Green options come with a glass-like finish that resembles frosted glass, while the White version features a sandstone texture, and the Orange variant has a metallic finish. I reviewed the Light Green model, which undoubtedly looks more premium compared to the original CMF Phone 1.
The back panel’s glass-like texture feels smooth to the touch. The phone is designed for easy customization, with four screws allowing users to swap out back panels and accessories. The device measures 7.8mm in thickness and weighs 185 grams, making it slimmer and lighter than the CMF Phone 1, which was 8mm thick and weighed 197 grams. Additionally, the handset holds an IP54 rating, providing reasonable protection against water and dust.
The handset comes equipped with a 6.77-inch flexible AMOLED display that offers good brightness in outdoor conditions.
The CMF Phone 2 Pro features a 6.77-inch flexible AMOLED display, boasting a resolution of 2392 x 1080 pixels. It supports impressive peak brightness of 3,000nits, a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ compatibility, and a 480Hz touch sampling rate, all protected by panda glass. During preliminary testing, the display demonstrated vibrant colors, though full capabilities will be assessed under various conditions in future reviews.
Powering the device is the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro processor, which claims to deliver a 10 percent increase in CPU performance and up to a 5 percent boost in graphics compared to the Dimensity 7300 found in the CMF Phone 1. Comprehensive testing will reveal the accuracy of these claims. The CMF Phone 2 Pro runs on Nothing OS 3.2, based on Android 15, and promises three years of OS updates along with six years of security patches. An interesting addition is the Essential Space feature, which debuted with the Nothing Phone 3a series.
The CMF Phone 2 Pro features a triple-camera setup at the rear panel.
In terms of photography, the phone is equipped with a triple-camera setup on the rear, including a 50-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.88 aperture and EIS support, a 50-megapixel telephoto sensor capable of 20x digital zoom, and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens with an f/2.2 aperture. On the front, it features a 16-megapixel camera with an f/2.45 aperture.
Battery life is supported by a 5,000mAh power source with 33W fast charging capabilities. Notably, Indian variants include a power brick in the package. Additionally, the device supports 5W reverse wired charging, enhancing its usability.
The CMF Phone 2 Pro packs a 5,000mAh battery and offers 33W fast charging support.
In summary, the CMF Phone 2 Pro appears to be a compelling option within its price range, offering significant enhancements over the CMF Phone 1. In terms of competition, it is set to challenge devices such as the Oppo K13, Realme P3, and Poco X7, among others.
