Guerrilla Games is preparing for the release of Lego Horizon Adventures, a Lego-inspired reinterpretation of its acclaimed title, Horizon Zero Dawn. This action-adventure spin-off is set to launch on November 14 for platforms including PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. In addition, the studio plans to release Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered later this month, although fans may have to wait considerably longer for a new mainline Horizon game. The studio’s next significant endeavor is reportedly a multiplayer online title set in the Horizon universe.
Future of the Horizon Franchise
In a recent episode of the Spawn Wave podcast, Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier revealed that Guerrilla Games is not focusing on a single-player sequel to 2022’s Horizon Forbidden West for its upcoming major release. “Horizon online is their next project, not whatever the third single-player game looks like. So, that one might be a ways off,” Schreier stated during the broadcast that aired on Sunday. He noted the studio has a considerable number of personnel involved in the online game’s development.
Guerrilla Games had previously announced in 2022 that it was working on an online installment in the Horizon franchise, highlighting recruitment efforts for various projects in the pipeline. The studio remarked in a post on X, “A new internal team is developing a separate Online Project set in Horizon’s universe,” emphasizing that this game will feature a fresh cast of characters and a unique visual style, allowing players to explore the vast landscapes of Horizon together.
Sony, along with its first-party studios, has made significant strides into live-service gaming, though outcomes have varied. While Helldivers 2 has enjoyed notable success, Concord, an online hero shooter from Sony, failed to attract attention and was taken offline just two weeks after launch. Similarly, Naughty Dog, another of Sony’s elite studios, scrapped its multiplayer project set in The Last of Us universe to prioritize a new single-player game.
Despite the absence of recent updates from both Sony and Guerrilla, Schreier’s latest insight indicates that the Horizon online title is indeed progressing and is poised to be the studio’s next major offering. However, no launch timeline for the game has been disclosed yet.
During Sony’s State of Play showcase last month, Guerrilla confirmed the remastering of Horizon Zero Dawn for both PS5 and PC, enhancing the game’s visuals to match those of its sequel. Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is scheduled for release on October 31.
