WhatsApp introduced a feature allowing users to pin messages in both individual and group chats in December 2023. These pinned messages are displayed at the top of the chat, positioned just below the name and image of the user or group. Initially, only one message could be pinned per chat. However, recent reports indicated that the platform was testing a new capability to pin multiple messages within a single chat, which has now been officially confirmed by WhatsApp.
The social messaging platform has now expanded this feature, enabling users to pin up to three messages within a chat. Confirmation came through WhatsApp’s official channels and various social media platforms. Pinned messages are retained at the top of the chat, shown as a banner, and tapping this banner directs users to the respective message.

When multiple messages are pinned, the banner indicates the total number of pinned messages along with a preview of the most recent one. Users can click on the banner to view all pinned messages and select their preferred one. Additionally, users have the option to set the duration for how long a message remains pinned, with choices of 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days.
WhatsApp has also provided detailed instructions for users on how to pin messages. For Android users, the procedure involves tapping and holding a message, selecting the three dots at the top right corner, choosing Pin, and then picking the desired pin duration. On iOS, users should tap and hold a message, tap on More options, select Pin, and choose the pin duration. For those using the Web or Desktop app, the process includes selecting the downward arrow next to a hovered message, clicking on Pin message, selecting the pin duration, and confirming with Pin.
Recently, reports have emerged that WhatsApp is also developing a feature for transcribing voice notes and is working on an AI-enhanced image editor to be integrated within the app.
