xAI’s Grok, an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, is set to debut as a standalone application for Android users. On Tuesday, the application was discovered listed on Google Play. While users currently cannot download it, there is an option to pre-register to be notified when it launches. A beta version of the app was temporarily accessible to a select group of users for testing purposes, though xAI has yet to announce an official release date.

Grok’s Android App Listed on Google Play

Hot on the heels of the Grok iOS app launch, xAI is preparing to introduce an Android version of its AI chatbot. Staff members from Gadgets 360 uncovered the app on Google Play, and an engineer from xAI confirmed its existence in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Earlier, the xAI app had a limited release, becoming available for download in Australia, Canada, India, the Philippines, and Saudi Arabia, but only for the first 1,000 users. This early access was intended for testing, while other users are greeted with a “coming soon” message and given the option to pre-register for automatic download upon release.

The Google Play listing states that the Grok app will be free to users, and sign-in will not be necessary for access to its features. However, users who desire a customized experience by linking the AI to their X account will have the option to sign in. It is important to note that access to the web version of the chatbot necessitates signing in.

The forthcoming app will offer features such as text generation, image creation, and real-time information sourced from X. It remains uncertain if the app will facilitate web searches. Grok’s Android app will utilize the Grok 2 AI model, which is also the foundation for both the free and premium versions utilized on the web.

The iOS version of Grok previously allowed users to sign in with their Apple accounts, but it is still unknown whether the Android iteration will offer a similar option for Google account sign-ins.
