Reddit is expanding access to its artificial intelligence (AI) conversational chatbot, known as Reddit Answers, to a broader audience. The chatbot is now available to users in India and can be utilized through the Reddit website, mobile web, and the iOS and Android applications. This feature was initially rolled out in December 2024 for select users in the United States, and following four months of testing, it is now accessible to users in various regions.
Reddit Answers Allows Users to Pose Up to 20 Questions Weekly
On Thursday, multiple users reported the appearance of a new “Answers” tab in their Reddit app. Staff members from Gadgets 360 confirmed access to this tab, located at the bottom of the app beside the Home button, featuring an icon resembling three water droplets arranged in a triangular format.
According to information shared by Reddit in December, the purpose of Reddit Answers is to assist users in locating information, recommendations, discussions, and opinions available on the platform. The feature remains in beta and is available to all users in various countries, including Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Sweden, the Netherlands, the UK, and the US. Currently, the tool only supports the English language.
Users who are not logged into their accounts can ask up to 10 questions weekly, while logged-in users can submit up to 20 questions daily. Additionally, Premium subscribers participating in the beta can inquire up to 100 questions every day.
Reddit Answers on Android
Reddit Answers features a full-screen interface that displays the Reddit Alien logo at the center, along with the name of the feature. Users will find a brief description of the chatbot and suggested queries to help them get started. At the bottom, a text field and a send button are available for users to enter their questions.
After a user submits a question, the chatbot provides a response that is delivered in a conversational style. It also links to relevant comments made by users on the platform, and directs users to specific subreddits for further exploration of the topic. Furthermore, Reddit Answers lists the posts that contributed to the generated response at the bottom of the screen.
In testing the chatbot, responses were generally accurate for straightforward, factual inquiries, although it occasionally struggled with niche topics that had limited discussion. Users can offer feedback by indicating whether a response was helpful or unhelpful.
For example, when queried about who scored in Chelsea’s last match, the chatbot responded correctly with “Estevao scored a goal on his birthday.” It is noteworthy that Estêvão Willian currently plays for Brazilian club Palmeiras and is set to join Chelsea only in the upcoming season.
According to its support page, Reddit disclosed that its AI chatbot employs in-house technology to locate, synthesize, and summarize existing posts and comments from across the platform. These responses are not reviewed by the company, and users are advised to verify the information independently.
Furthermore, Reddit has stated that data from user interactions with the chatbot will be collected and processed in alignment with the company’s privacy policy.
