Reddit has expanded access to its AI-powered conversational chatbot, Reddit Answers, to more users, including those in India. The chatbot is accessible through the Reddit website, mobile web, and its iOS and Android applications. This feature was first introduced to a select group of users in the US back in December 2024, and after four months of testing, it is now available to users in multiple countries.
Reddit Answers Allows Users to Pose Up to 20 Questions Weekly
On Thursday, many users reported seeing a new “Answers” tab in their Reddit app. Staff members from Gadgets 360 were also able to locate this tab at the bottom of the app, positioned next to the Home button. The icon for this feature resembles three interconnected droplet shapes arranged in a triangular formation.
According to information released by Reddit in December, the Reddit Answers feature aims to assist users in finding information, recommendations, discussions, and opinions present on the platform. Currently in beta, this feature is available to users in countries including Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Sweden, the Netherlands, the UK, and the US. It supports the English language exclusively.
Logged-out users within these regions can ask up to 10 questions per week, while logged-in users have the capacity to pose up to 20 questions daily. Additionally, Premium subscribers with access to the beta version can ask as many as 100 questions in a single day.
The Reddit Answers feature offers a full-screen interface that showcases the Reddit Alien logo prominently. This is followed by the name of the feature and a brief description of the chatbot, alongside suggested queries to help users get started. A text field and a send button for entering questions are located at the bottom of the screen.
When a user submits a query, the chatbot provides a response in a conversational style and includes links to relevant comments from other Reddit users. Additionally, it directs users to specific subreddits for further exploration of the topic. At the bottom of the response, Reddit Answers also lists the posts that were referenced in generating the answer.
Based on user experiences, Reddit Answers tends to provide accurate responses for straightforward and factual questions. However, it may struggle with more specialized inquiries that lack extensive discussions on the platform. Users have the option to give feedback by marking responses as either helpful or unhelpful.
For example, when asked about the scorer in Chelsea’s last match, the chatbot responded with, “Chelsea’s last match saw Estevao score a goal on his birthday.” However, it is noteworthy that Estevão Willian, currently playing for Brazilian club Palmeiras, will not join Chelsea until the next season.
On its support page, Reddit clarifies that the AI chatbot utilizes proprietary technology to search, synthesize, and summarize posts and comments from across all Reddit communities. These responses are not subject to company vetting, and users are encouraged to verify information before relying on it.
Reddit also noted that data generated from user interactions with the chatbot would be collected in line with the company’s privacy policy.
