The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered launched with notable enthusiasm following an unexpected announcement and release on Tuesday by Bethesda. While the studio has yet to disclose player and sales data, the remastered edition is already demonstrating significant popularity on Steam, quickly becoming one of the most played titles on the platform and ranking high in sales.

Strong Launch for Oblivion Remastered

According to SteamDB charts, Oblivion Remastered achieved a peak concurrent player count of 190,119 on the first day of its surprise drop on April 22. Currently, more than 92,000 players are engaging with the game simultaneously. This RPG now ranks among the top games on Steam, trailing only behind established titles like Counter-Strike 2, PUBG: Battlegrounds, Dota 2, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Apex Legends.

The player statistics are particularly impressive considering Oblivion Remastered also debuted on Game Pass, making it accessible to subscribers at no additional cost. This availability likely boosts the overall player base beyond the Steam count, especially with the game also launching on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X. Further insights into overall player figures are expected when Bethesda provides updates.

The remaster has now ascended to the number one position on Steam’s global Top Sellers chart as well. Initial player feedback has been promising, with the game currently holding a “Very Positive” rating following over 15,000 reviews.

Social media platforms, notably X (formerly Twitter), are abuzz with gameplay clips and screenshots showcasing the remaster’s loyalty to the original game mechanics. Players have expressed appreciation for the enhanced version, which retains some of the quirks and bugs that fans fondly remember from the original.

The announcement and launch of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered followed a series of leaks, leading to speculation about a surprise release this month. The remaster, rebuilt from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5, is a collaborative effort between Virtuous and Bethesda Game Studios.

The remastered edition includes the base game along with its expansions, Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine, as well as additional downloadable content, most notably the infamous Horse Armor Pack. Alongside improved visuals, the remaster introduces numerous gameplay enhancements and quality-of-life upgrades that modernize the classic title for contemporary audiences. Oblivion Remastered is now available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
