Remedy Entertainment has officially announced that the expansion for Alan Wake 2, titled The Lake House, will be released on October 22. This expansion serves as the second and final addition to the acclaimed survival-horror game, further enhancing its connections to other titles within the Remedy universe. The Lake House introduces a new protagonist and unfolds a narrative that runs concurrently with the early chapters of Alan Wake 2. The setting is at the eponymous Lake House, which operates as a Federal Bureau of Control research facility located on the banks of Cauldron Lake.

During the Xbox Partner Preview event on Thursday, Remedy revealed both the launch date and a first look at gameplay from The Lake House expansion. The story centers around FBC agent Kiran Estevez, further solidifying the interconnectedness of the Control and Alan Wake franchises. This new location, hinted at in the original game, will provide a fresh backdrop for the unfolding drama. The expansion is set to introduce additional gameplay elements, including a new weapon and a terrifying new enemy.
The Lake House will intensify the survival horror experience, amplifying the fear factor present in Alan Wake 2. Players will navigate a facility rife with hidden dangers, as remnants of nightmares linger in the shadows. The expansion is expected to uncover more mysteries surrounding the enigmatic Federal Bureau of Control, which was first introduced in Remedy’s 2019 title, Control.
Game Director Kyle Rowley explained, “The mission is structured similarly to the larger quests found in Alan Wake 2, maintaining the essence of a traditional survival horror game.” He emphasized the expansive layout for exploration, with secrets to unearth and formidable enemies to confront.
Rowley added, “Narrative, as it did in the main game, plays a significant role in the expansion. It will be worth players’ while to explore thoroughly and locate the many narrative objects scattered about the environment.”
Players can access The Lake House expansion directly from the main menu of Alan Wake 2 or can encounter it seamlessly while playing through the primary campaign. All owners of the Deluxe Edition of Alan Wake 2 will have immediate access to this expansion. Those who possess the Standard Edition can choose to purchase the Deluxe upgrade separately to gain entry to both expansions: Night Springs and The Lake House.
