Hazelight Studios, known for its innovative titles A Way Out and It Takes Two, has announced its latest project. A reliable source has revealed that the studio’s upcoming game will be titled Split Fiction. This disclosure follows a recent tease from Josef Fares, Hazelight’s founder and acclaimed writer/director of It Takes Two, who hinted at the game’s development on X (formerly Twitter) last week. Hazelight has since verified that the title will be a new intellectual property published under the EA Originals initiative.
Details of Hazelight Studios’ Upcoming Release
On Monday, prominent leaker billbil-kun reported that Hazelight Studios’ forthcoming game is named Split Fiction. The leaker provided this information in a report on Dealabs, indicating that the game has been in the works for over two years.
This speculation aligns with the teaser shared by Fares on X last week. The renowned director and writer, known for games like Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, A Way Out, and It Takes Two, hinted at the game by revealing the initials of the title in his post. “Getting a lot of questions about the next game. Here is a tease. It is a BRAND NEW IP called S**** ******N. Can’t wait to show it soon,” he stated.
Following Fares’ announcement on October 17, Hazelight Studios shared an image of a document that affirmed the development of this new IP, under EA Originals as the publisher. The image featured post-it notes that hinted at various game details. Given that the title “Split Fiction” suggests, the game is expected to incorporate dynamic split-screen cooperative gameplay, reminiscent of A Way Out and It Takes Two.
While Fares and Hazelight have yet to provide a timeline for the game’s release, more details, including the official name and additional insights, are anticipated in the near future.
This announcement from Hazelight regarding its upcoming project follows closely on the heels of the news that its last title, It Takes Two, has surpassed 20 million units sold. This cooperative action-adventure platformer took players on the journey of a married couple shrunk down to miniature size, exploring intricately designed environments within their home. The game has garnered critical acclaim for its gameplay diversity and won the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2021.
