Last week, Microsoft unveiled the general availability of Copilot Vision for all users of the Microsoft Edge browser. Initially introduced in December 2024, this advanced artificial intelligence feature, which leverages computer vision technology, was previously accessible only to Copilot Pro subscribers. Now, the tech giant based in Redmond is making it widely available, allowing all Edge users to benefit from its functionalities.

Copilot Vision Is Now Available to Everyone for Free

In a recent announcement on X (formerly Twitter), Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Microsoft AI, confirmed that Copilot Vision will now be accessible to all users, regardless of their subscription status. Suleyman highlighted, “It’ll think out loud with you when you’re browsing online. No more over-explaining, copy-pasting, or struggling to put something into words.”

Copilot Vision operates as a real-time computer vision tool, akin to the screen-sharing feature offered by Gemini Live. This AI chatbot can view and interpret content on web pages within the Edge browser while simultaneously processing user prompts. Additionally, it features a voice mode, enabling users to convey their requests verbally rather than through typing.

To address potential privacy and data security concerns, Microsoft has designated Copilot Vision as an opt-in feature. Users interested in activating it can follow specific instructions accessible via a link in the Edge browser. Once enabled, they can simply tap a microphone icon in the Copilot sidebar to enter Vision mode, which will present a floating interface with a text field and microphone button.

Suleyman noted that Copilot Vision offers users a variety of applications. It can efficiently read and summarize multiple reviews and clarify visually complex items. For instance, it can identify whether a couch displayed on a shopping site is “roll arm” or “midcentury modern.” Furthermore, it assists users in finding products by understanding natural language descriptions.

Upon launch, Microsoft assured users that they would retain control over the feature’s activation. When turned off, Copilot Vision does not access the user’s screen. Moreover, the company stated that all conversation data—including user prompts and webpage content—will be deleted at the conclusion of each session. However, the responses generated by Copilot are recorded to enhance the company’s safety systems.
