WhatsApp has unveiled a series of design modifications for its mobile applications on both iOS and Android platforms. While some changes are subtle, others are more prominent, enhancing user experience with new features like chat filters aimed at improving navigation. The company asserts that these updates boost the application’s functionality while preserving its user-friendly and accessible nature. Consequently, the interfaces on iOS and Android now share a more cohesive appearance than before.
In a recent blog post, WhatsApp revealed that after evaluating over 35 color palettes, a consistent green was selected for its interface. The update also introduces a darker dark mode for Android that offers higher contrast and deeper shades, designed to alleviate eye strain in low-light environments while enhancing text readability.
Updates to the WhatsApp icons feature a new rounded, outlined design, complemented by refreshed animations and illustrations. Additionally, the original default doodle background has received a subtle update.
The redesign also benefits Android users, who now see the addition of a bottom navigation bar that was first introduced in March of this year. iOS users can expect an updated attachment layout with a collapsible tray, replacing the former full-screen menu. Furthermore, the recently added chat filters provide separate tabs for unread messages and group chats within the new design.
Previous reports have indicated that WhatsApp is testing a new zoom feature, allowing users to adjust zoom levels while capturing images or recording videos directly within the app.
