Grand Theft Auto 6 is anticipated to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X in 2025. This title is expected to be highly demanding and capable of testing the limits of current-generation consoles. There have been concerns about the lower-end Xbox Series S encountering hardware limitations, raising questions about its ability to handle GTA 6 smoothly. However, Take-Two Interactive’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, has alleviated these worries, expressing that he is “not worried” about the game’s performance on the Xbox Series S.

CEO Addresses Performance Concerns for Xbox Series S

During Take-Two’s second quarter FY 2025 earnings call, Zelnick addressed inquiries regarding potential performance issues for GTA 6 on the Xbox Series S, which is described as “by design a lower specced console.” Given that the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series is expected to technically challenge consoles, the question of capability was inevitable.

In his response, Zelnick remarked, “We support the platforms where the consumers are for as long as they’re there, and we find a way to support platforms despite different levels of tech. Our labels are really good at that.”

He further added, “I’m not really worried — I’ve never worried where hardware was going. Because, first of all, I don’t worry about things over which I have zero control.”

Additionally, he expressed confidence in the audience’s loyalty, stating, “The audience is going to show up if you have great properties. We just have to make sure to be on an array of platforms, and if one platform diminishes in value, there’s always another one. So, we’re seeing great growth in PC right now, for example.”

Zelnick highlighted the growing significance of PC gaming within the console landscape and assured that supporting this platform would not pose major challenges for Take-Two.

“The bottom line is we are selective about which platforms we support. We make the tech work when we can make it work, as long as the audience is big enough to make that worthwhile,” he concluded.

Future of Take-Two Games on PC

While Zelnick discussed the importance of the PC platform, it is crucial to note that GTA 6 has not yet been confirmed for a PC release, and if it follows the pattern of previous titles, it may experience a delayed launch. Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 both debuted on PC more than a year after their initial console releases. Recently, Rockstar Games launched Red Dead Redemption on PC, over 14 years after it was first available on PS3 and Xbox 360.

In the same earnings call, Take-Two confirmed that GTA 6 is scheduled for a Fall 2025 release. The highly anticipated follow-up to the blockbuster GTA 5 was teased nearly a year ago with a trailer released in December 2024. Set in a fictional U.S. state influenced by Florida, the game will revisit the iconic Vice City, familiar to players of previous titles in the franchise. However, a specific launch date has yet to be announced.
