X, which was formerly known as Twitter, is reportedly experimenting with a new feature designed to enhance user interaction by introducing a downvote option for iPhone users. Social media discussions suggest that this feature may be symbolized by a heartbroken icon rather than the typical downward arrow seen on platforms like Reddit. Initial reports of this experiment date back to 2021, and recent code discoveries indicate that development on the feature is still in progress.
Dislike Button on X
A post from user @aaronp613 on X has raised expectations that the downvote functionality could soon be available for iOS users. The code analysis has revealed references to a heartbroken emoji to represent this dislike feature, echoing the existing heart icon used for likes.
Additional text strings found within the app’s code include messages such as “Do you want to downvote this post?” and simply “Downvote this post.” It remains uncertain, however, whether users will have the ability to downvote both posts and replies or just the posts, as the current code primarily references “posts.”
Furthermore, user @P4mui shared a video demonstrating the purported downvoting function in action, but the footage suggests that this feature is applicable solely to replies and does not extend to posts.
Hidden Likes
In tandem with plans for the potential dislike feature, X, under the ownership of Elon Musk, has decided to conceal ‘likes’ from user profiles. Consequently, users will no longer see a list of posts they have liked under the likes tab, effectively removing that section altogether. This adjustment is part of a broader set of changes that have been implemented on the platform since Musk took the helm in 2022.
