Ubisoft’s latest release, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, is proving to be a remarkable success. The action-adventure game has consistently ranked as the best-selling title in the US since its launch three weeks ago, according to recent figures from market research firm Circana. While specific unit sales numbers haven’t been disclosed by Ubisoft, the studio has indicated that Shadows marks the second largest launch in the history of the franchise.
US Sales Performance of Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Data from Circana reveals that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has maintained its position as the top-selling game in the US for its initial three weeks on the market. Mat Piscatella from Circana shared this information via a post on social media platform Bluesky on Monday, noting that Shadows is currently the second best-selling game of 2025 in the US, trailing only Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds.
Here’s a fun one… Assassin’s Creed: Shadows has been the best-selling video game in the US for each of its first 3 weeks in market, according to Circana’s Retail Tracking Service (dollar sales, latest data through April 5th). Currently ranks #2 year-to-date trailing only Monster Hunter: Wilds.

Despite the absence of official sales figures from Ubisoft, Circana’s data points to a significant positive response from consumers. The company reported that more than three million players have engaged with Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Furthermore, the game achieved the second highest day-one sales revenue in the franchise’s history, ranking just below Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which debuted in 2020. Additionally, Ubisoft noted last month that Shadows set a record for the best day-one launch on the PlayStation Store.

As reported by SteamDB, the game, which takes players to a Japan-themed setting, achieved an all-time peak of 64,825 concurrent players on Steam. Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched on multiple platforms, including Steam, Ubisoft Connect, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
Ubisoft had high expectations for Shadows following a series of underperforming AAA titles, which had previously led to a 40 percent decline in the company’s stock price in 2024. In light of this, Ubisoft announced the creation of a subsidiary dedicated to its core franchises, including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six. This initiative is being supported by a substantial investment of €1.16 billion (approximately Rs. 10,694 crore) from Tencent, a Chinese conglomerate that has acquired a minority stake in the new subsidiary.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows was released on March 20 across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. Set in 16th century Japan, the game follows the intertwined narratives of its two main characters, Naoe, a shinobi, and Yasuke, a samurai.
