WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new feature for Android users that would enable them to select default themes for chats and chat bubbles. This capability, highlighted by feature tracker WABetaInfo, aims to enhance customization options on the widely-used messaging platform. Reports also suggest that WhatsApp is working on a separate feature allowing users to mention contacts in their status updates.
Enhanced Theme Options for WhatsApp on Android
According to WABetaInfo, the feature is currently in development and has been identified in the beta version 2.24.20.12 of WhatsApp for Android. Once implemented, users will be able to choose from various design styles for their chat themes.
The feature, as seen in the accompanying screenshot, will allow the app to automatically adjust the colors of chat bubbles and wallpapers to match the chosen theme. Furthermore, users might have the flexibility to select a wallpaper color that differs from the chat bubble color, providing more nuanced personalization.
The theme selection feature is expected to be located in the settings menu of WhatsApp for Android and designed to apply to all chats by default. Nonetheless, users will still retain the option to manually change the theme for individual conversations.
Previously, the ability to choose a default theme was first discovered in WhatsApp Beta for Android version 2.24.17.19.
WABetaInfo indicated that this new feature is still under development and is not available to beta users participating through the Google Play Beta program. It’s important to note that although various new features are in the pipeline for the messaging platform, not all of them are guaranteed to be released publicly.
