Meta is set to announce an innovative voice mode feature for its native AI chatbot, drawing comparisons to the voice functionality seen in OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This new feature is designed to facilitate two-way conversations between users and the AI, enhancing interactive communication.

According to a report from Reuters, the tech giant has aligned with several celebrities to incorporate their voices into the Meta AI experience. Sources familiar with the situation mention that notable figures, including John Cena, Kristen Bell, Judi Dench, Awkwafina, and Kegan-Michael Key, have signed on to be part of this initiative.

Users engaging with Meta AI will have the option to select from various celebrity voices, adding a personal touch to their interactions. Additionally, the social media company plans to introduce several standard voice options to cater to diverse preferences. This voice mode feature is expected to debut across Meta’s platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

The official announcement of this two-way conversation capability is anticipated during Meta’s annual Connect conference, which kicks off on Wednesday. The voices featuring celebrities are likely to launch first in the United States and other English-speaking countries before reaching global audiences later in the year. However, it remains unclear if this feature will be available in India.

In a related update, the WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo has reported that the popular messaging app will also introduce the Meta AI voice mode. The AI chatbot on WhatsApp is expected to offer three voices with a UK accent, two with a US accent, and five voices derived from public figures. The generic options will vary in terms of gender, pitch, and regional accents, appealing to a wide range of users.

On a related note, OpenAI recently revealed enhancements to its voice mode during its Spring Update event, showcasing advancements that include emotive voice features and the ability for the AI to respond contextually to user input. Meanwhile, Google has introduced its Gemini Live feature, which offers comparable functionalities.
