Apple has begun deploying the iOS 18.4 release candidate to beta testers, signaling an imminent launch of the stable version for all users. The tech giant has previously issued four beta versions of iOS 18.4, which include notable enhancements such as seven new emoji, enhancements to CarPlay, Priority Notifications, and new shortcuts for Visual Intelligence. Furthermore, this update will broaden the reach of Apple Intelligence to more languages and regions, specifically within the European Union. Users will also gain the ability to set default applications in additional categories with this release.

Expected Timeline for iOS 18.4 Stable Release

The iOS 18.4 RC retains all the features and functionalities that users can expect in the forthcoming stable version. This update will introduce Priority Notifications for devices that support Apple Intelligence and unveil Visual Intelligence capabilities specifically for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Users will be able to access this feature via the Action Button and Control Centre, which will also see the addition of new Ambient Music shortcuts.

Moreover, Apple has rolled out new Shortcuts for app settings, potentially paving the way for more extensive Siri integration in the future. The iOS keyboard will benefit from the addition of seven new emoji, and users will enjoy an expanded variety of categories in which they can designate default apps.

The reach of Apple Intelligence is set to grow, now encompassing regions within the EU. According to the company’s dedicated iOS 18 page, the AI-enhanced features will be available in numerous languages, including Simplified Chinese, English (from India and Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, and Spanish.

In addition, a new ‘Sketch’ style will be introduced for the Image Playground app, alongside an AI-powered capability for summarizing App Store reviews, marking yet another advancement within iOS 18.4.

iPhone users who have enrolled in the beta program can download the release candidate directly through the Settings app. Typically, Apple issues a release candidate approximately one to two weeks prior to the stable version, suggesting that iOS 18.4 could be available to the general public by either April 1 or April 8. The release candidate mirrors the stable build, retaining features from previous beta iterations of iOS 18.4.
