LinkedIn appears to be phasing out the display of artificial intelligence (AI) prompts that previously appeared in the feeds of Premium users. These prompts were intended to encourage the use of the platform’s AI capabilities, but many users have noted their absence for some time. The company has acknowledged the reduction of these prompts but has not provided a specific rationale for the decision. This follows a report earlier this month that suggested LinkedIn has been utilizing user data to train its AI models without prior notification.
LinkedIn Reduces AI Prompt Visibility for Premium Members
A report from Fast Company indicates that LinkedIn is quietly eliminating the frequent AI prompt suggestions that once featured prominently for Premium users. These prompts, which appeared beneath posts in the user’s feed, suggested related questions for users to pose to the AI, similar to a feature introduced by Meta on Facebook.
Despite the original intent behind these prompts, users have noted a significant decrease in their visibility. LinkedIn spokesperson Suzi Owens confirmed to the publication that the company is indeed scaling back these AI suggestions, clarifying that the move is not in response to user feedback or negative perceptions regarding the AI features.
“Members can still utilize our AI-powered tools on the jobs home page to receive personalized insights about networking, job positioning, or company information,” Owens stated.
This clarification comes amid reports that many users felt overwhelmed by the numerous prompts in their feeds, finding them unhelpful. These suggestions were meant to encourage interaction with AI features that LinkedIn introduced in November 2023. Users had previously expressed frustration at the lack of an option to disable these prompts.
Additionally, the platform has drawn criticism for collecting user data to train its AI models without sufficiently informing users. This issue was highlighted when some users discovered settings that allowed them to turn off data collection for AI purposes. Following this revelation, LinkedIn updated its policies to clarify its data collection practices.
