The microblogging platform Threads has introduced significant updates for its iPhone and Android applications, featuring a new dedicated media tab. Owned by Meta, Threads now allows users to easily access photos and videos uploaded to their profiles. Additionally, a new markup functionality has been unveiled, enabling users to highlight specific sections of another user’s post when sharing it with their followers. Users can also tag others in photos, mirroring a feature available on Instagram.
Expanded Rollout of Threads Markup Feature
Previously, Threads users faced the challenge of searching through an individual’s timeline to find all their media posts, as these were mixed with text-only updates. The recent update organizes all media posts from a user in reverse chronological order, providing a more streamlined experience.
Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, announced the arrival of the dedicated media tab, referring to it as “a long overdue request from the community.” He also highlighted the introduction of tagging users during image sharing, a familiar feature for Instagram users.
A third enhancement for Threads users is the newly launched markup tool. This feature enables users to highlight portions of another user’s post when sharing it. It allows for the use of a virtual highlighter on selected text, enhancing the sharing process. This announcement was made earlier in the month, with the rollout extending to a wider audience now.
Staff members from Gadgets 360 confirmed the new media tab’s presence in the latest versions of Threads for both iOS and Android devices. The markup tool is operational, offering options for drawing with a pencil, using a highlighter, or applying an arrow. However, the photo tagging feature appears to be in a phased rollout, with availability continuing for users over time.
