WhatsApp has unveiled a new feature that allows users to designate specific groups and individual chats as favourites for quicker access. This functionality can be found in the chat filters bar, along with options for unread messages, groups, and all conversations. In addition, the company has announced the upcoming rollout of a Custom Lists feature, enabling users to create and modify personalized lists of contacts for more efficient navigation. These lists can encompass both groups and one-on-one chats, akin to the existing favourites functionality.

WhatsApp Custom Lists

In a blog post released on Thursday, WhatsApp detailed the global rollout of the custom lists feature, set to be available to all users within the next few weeks. This enhancement will allow users to organize their contacts into specific categories, such as family, work, and neighbourhood, thus including both group chats and individual conversations.

To create a custom list, users will need to click the “+” icon located in the filter tab. After naming the list, they can add an unlimited number of groups or individual contacts. The created lists will display alongside the options for AllUnread, and Groups filters.

This feature is anticipated to enhance the way users manage their chats and conversations within the popular messaging application. Additionally, WhatsApp users will have the flexibility to modify these lists at any time. To edit a previously created list, a long-press on the name tab in the filter bar is required.

In related news, WhatsApp is reportedly developing a stickers feature, with insights from feature tracker WABetaInfo indicating that the app is testing functionality that will enable users to create custom sticker packs. This includes options such as Add to sticker pack, Add to Favourites, and Edit sticker. Furthermore, the Meta-owned messaging service is also exploring Snapchat-like camera effects, including various filters and backgrounds, which users will be able to activate or deactivate through the app’s Privacy settings.
