WhatsApp has announced the launch of several new features aimed at enhancing the audio and video calling experience for users on both desktop and mobile platforms, just in time for the holiday season. The updates include an expanded selection of effects for video calls and the capability to choose specific participants during group calls. Additionally, the platform boasts improvements in video call quality with higher resolution images.
WhatsApp Introduces 10 New Effects for Video Calls
In a recent blog post, WhatsApp outlined these new features available on both desktop and mobile interfaces. Among the highlights is the introduction of ten video call effects, such as puppy ears, underwater themes, and karaoke microphones. In group chats, users can now directly select individuals for calls, allowing for more focused conversations without interrupting the entire chat.
The updates also enhance the Calls tab for the WhatsApp desktop application. New functionalities include options to initiate a call, create a call link, and dial directly from the app. The introduction of higher-resolution video calling ensures that both individual and group calls deliver a clearer picture.
These latest features follow a series of updates WhatsApp has rolled out in recent months.
Additionally, the platform introduced voice message transcripts last month, streamlining the process of sending and receiving voice notes. This feature provides users with a text version of the voice messages they receive, with transcripts being accessible only to the recipient. WhatsApp assures users that these transcripts are generated locally, ensuring privacy as no external party can access their content.
