On Monday, the company teased a “new era” for the game, which includes substantial gameplay changes coming in a forthcoming update. A detailed presentation regarding these alterations is slated for next month, highlighting the direction Ubisoft intends to take.
A ‘New Era’ for Rainbow Six Siege
The planned event, titled the R6 Siege X showcase, is scheduled for March 13. During this presentation, Ubisoft aims to share extensive upgrades for Rainbow Six Siege, hinting at a possible rebranding as Rainbow Six Siege X. The developer noted that the overhaul aims to enhance the game’s tactical gameplay, providing “the stage for the years to come.” This update will not be a sequel but rather a substantial upgrade, introducing enhanced gameplay dynamics and fresh content.
In a blog post, Ubisoft stated, “The R6 team has been working tirelessly to bring to life the biggest transformation in the game’s history, aimed at solidifying Rainbow Six Siege’s position as a top tactical first-person shooter. This will incorporate new ways to play, deeper tactical gameplay, a refined game feel, and major upgrades across the board.” A teaser related to Rainbow Six Siege X was included with the announcement, though it offered little in terms of specifics.
The Rainbow Six Siege X showcase will commence at 5 PM GMT / 6 PM CET (10:30 PM IST) in Atlanta, Georgia, with live broadcasting planned for those interested in tuning in. Attendees can expect to see “all the evolutions coming with Siege X.” It appears that the showcase will provide hands-on opportunities for players and content creators to explore the upcoming changes firsthand.
Ubisoft expressed gratitude towards the game’s community, stating, “Rainbow Six Siege wouldn’t be where it is without the dedicated community that rallies behind it. We can’t wait to reveal everything soon and hope that Siege X not only reinforces what you love about it but also excites you for its future as much as it excites us.”
This update coincides with the 10-year anniversary of the game’s initial release. During its third-quarter earnings call for 2024-25 last week, Ubisoft revealed that its Montreal development team is preparing “something significant” to celebrate this milestone.
Despite a sluggish start in sales, Rainbow Six Siege has cultivated a loyal player base over the years, thanks to Ubisoft’s commitment to regular updates. The company confirmed in 2021 that the game surpassed 75 million registered players across all platforms.
