Qualcomm is gearing up to introduce the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, its upcoming flagship chipset for smartphones and mobile devices, in the next few months. A tipster on Weibo, the Chinese microblogging platform, has provided leaked information about this successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC. The new Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip is anticipated to offer a significant performance boost, with up to 30 percent improvement in GPU capabilities compared to its predecessor. Furthermore, it is expected to support LPDDR6 RAM.
Anticipated Performance Enhancements for Snapdragon 8 Elite 2
According to a post by the tipster known as Digital Chat Station, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will incorporate second-generation Oryon CPU cores developed by Qualcomm. This next-generation architecture is predicted to deliver a 25 percent performance enhancement over the first-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC launched last year.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is said to support both LPDDR5x and LPDDR6 RAM. Devices featuring LPDDR6 RAM could debut later this year alongside this new chipset and are expected to outperform last year’s models.
Enhancements in GPU performance are also on the horizon. The upcoming chipset is likely to feature an independent GPU cache expanded to 16MB from the 12MB found in the Snapdragon 8 Elite. This move is expected to contribute to a GPU performance increase of up to 30 percent over the original model.
Earlier reports indicated that Qualcomm is developing the SM8850 chipset, anticipated to be the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, using TSMC’s advanced N3P fabrication technology. This new chip was previously predicted to provide a 20 percent performance leap compared to the current flagship processor.
Digital Chat Station has also suggested that smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 could be unveiled in October, although some manufacturers might reveal their flagship models as soon as September. Qualcomm’s annual Snapdragon Summit is typically scheduled for October.
