Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is set to implement a new feature called “Community Notes,” which will be used for organic content but will not extend to paid advertisements. This information was confirmed by a source familiar with the plans in a report to Reuters on Thursday.
According to the source, Community Notes will apply only to organic posts, which are content created without financial backing from advertisers.
The Wall Street Journal, which first reported on the topic, noted that there may be changes to the program as it develops. Initially, organic posts from brands and influencers may not include Community Notes when the feature launches.
A Meta spokesperson stated, “We are making the transition to Community Notes over the next couple of months in the United States. As with any new product rollout, we’ll continually evaluate and improve it throughout the year.”
The spokesperson also highlighted that any other information regarding the product’s functionality is merely speculation and not officially communicated by the company.
The rollout of Community Notes is expected to begin in the U.S. over the next several months, with adjustments being made to enhance the model over the course of the year.
