On Wednesday, Hinge unveiled a pioneering artificial intelligence (AI) feature designed to help users craft distinctive and engaging profiles on the popular dating app. Named “Prompt Feedback,” this new tool provides personalized suggestions when users respond to text prompts suggested by the app. It marks the introduction of AI capabilities within Hinge, which is owned by Match Group, and aims to help users generate responses that are more creative and less cliché. Importantly, the AI feature is accessible to all users without the need for a subscription.
Hinge Launches Platform’s First AI Feature
In a press release, Hinge highlighted the benefits of its new AI system. The company shared insights from its own research, indicating that responses to text prompts are 47 percent more likely to lead to successful dates compared to likes on photos. Despite this, 63 percent of users reported difficulties in crafting unique and captivating responses. These insights were pivotal in the development of the Prompt Feedback feature.
Hinge operates differently compared to many typical dating applications that utilize a swiping mechanism for matching profiles. Instead, Hinge allows users to like and comment on both photos and text prompts, initiating conversations based on user engagement. This approach emphasizes the significance of crafting interesting responses, thereby increasing the likelihood of receiving likes and initiating interactions.
The Prompt Feedback feature utilizes OpenAI’s GPT-4o mini AI model, enabling users to receive tailored suggestions based on their responses to text prompts. To access this tool, users can click on the profile icon located at the bottom right corner, followed by the pencil icon at the top of their profile picture. This action brings up the edit profile interface, where users can modify their photos, update bio information, and write new prompts.
After selecting a suggested prompt, users can type their responses in a designated text field. Once they finish, a sparkle icon appears at the bottom of the field, accompanied by the message “Get feedback.” By tapping this icon, users receive one of three AI-generated feedback responses: “Great Answer,” “Try a Small Change,” or “Go a Little Deeper.”
Furthermore, users can explore a more detailed analysis by clicking on the initial feedback. This action opens a new page, indicating what specific changes or additions could enhance the uniqueness of their prompt response. Hinge reassured users that all feedback remains private, granting them the option to either revise their answer or retain the original response.
