During a Q&A session on Monday at OpenAI’s DevDay in San Francisco, CEO Sam Altman expressed enthusiasm for the newly unveiled feature, ChatGPT Pulse, describing it as his “favorite feature we’ve launched in a long time.” He also hinted that advertising could be a future component of the product.
ChatGPT Pulse is OpenAI’s innovative approach to personalizing user interaction with its chatbot. By leveraging user transcripts and connected applications—such as calendars and email—the feature enables the chatbot to prepare daily summaries on user-specific topics. This could include tailored workout plans, language lessons, news updates, or dining suggestions, aiming to ensure that users kickstart their day with ChatGPT’s insights.
During the Q&A, company executives mentioned the potential for incorporating advertisements within Pulse. However, Altman clarified that there are “no current plans” to implement this feature at this stage. He expressed a fondness for Instagram ads, indicating that such relevant advertisements could be considered for the future. The initial rollout of Pulse was intended for all users, but due to its high computational demands, it has been restricted to Pro users for now.
“If we can identify effective solutions that genuinely benefit users, we may explore that avenue, but we proceed cautiously with advertisements,” Altman stated.
