Qualcomm has revealed plans to unveil a new Snapdragon chipset in China on April 2. Although the company has not disclosed specific details, speculation suggests that the upcoming model may be the successor to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, potentially named either Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 or Snapdragon 8s Elite. Reports indicate that the new system-on-chip (SoC) might utilize Arm’s Cortex X4 cores featuring a peak clock speed of 3.21 GHz.
Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 Launch Scheduled
Qualcomm announced the chipset launch in a Weibo post. The company described the new product as a “flagship” offering. This announcement aligns with the debut of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC, which was introduced on March 18. Industry insiders suggest that the new chipset will carry the designation Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 or Snapdragon 8s Elite, consistent with the company’s recent naming conventions.
While specific information is limited, a tipster has indicated that the upcoming SoC may be manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm technology. The design is rumored to feature a prime Cortex X4 core operating at 3.21 GHz, along with three Cortex A720 performance cores clocked at 3.01 GHz, two additional Cortex A720 cores at 2.80 GHz, and another two Cortex A720 cores at 2.02 GHz.
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is also anticipated to include an Adreno 825 GPU, which is designed for graphics-intensive applications. This GPU is said to share the same generation of cores as the Adreno 830 found in the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, albeit with fewer cores.
Furthermore, the chip is expected to feature an 8MB L3 cache and a 6MB SLC. It may achieve an AnTuTu benchmark exceeding 2 million points. For context, the Snapdragon 8 Elite has an AnTuTu score of 2.75 million, while its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, scored approximately 1.49 million.
Additional insights and specifications are likely to emerge upon the chip’s official launch tomorrow.
